These researchers propose that since there are groups of platypuses geographically isolated from each other that they may actually be different species.

Although this video created by National Geographic makes the platypus sound like a heartless, crazed killing machine, it contains a plethora of accurate information regarding the characteristics of platypuses and is presented in an easy-to-follow manner.

The video "Platypus feeding at Mossman Gorge" has great footage and close-ups of a platypus. It shows a platypus foraging for food at Mossman Gorge in Daintree National Park in Queensland, Australia. Platypuses are elusive animals and are rarely seen in the wild.

This Honda Commercial embodies the general public view that platypuses are an odd combination of multiple other animals.  This "strange" combination of body parts leads to the platypus often being called an evolutionary enigma.

The presence of the platypus in the popular kids' television show "Phineas and Ferb" demonstrates how the platypus captures people's imagination. "Phineas and Ferb" features Perry the platypus living a double life as a pet and a secret agent and airs on Disney channel.

Here's the lyrics so you can sing along!

He's a semi-aquatic egg laying mammal of action,
He's a furry little flat foot who'll never flinch from a fray,
He's got more than just mad skill,
He's got a beavers' tail and bill,
And the women swoon whenever they hear him say:
*platypus sound*,
He's Perry,
Perry the Platypus!
